At Armin Strom, creating our own resonance system was a dream which became true.
At Armin Strom, creating our own resonance system was a dream which became true.
Motivation was initially spurred by promises of great wealth offered by various European governments, who sought a resilient chronometric solution for improved maritime navigation. Alas, as Sir Issac Newton advised the British parliament in 1714, “Such a watch has not yet been made”.
The journey to achieve resilient chronometric consistency via resonance was only completed in 2016 with our patented clutch spring, which acts as a third oscillator. Almost imperceptible vibrations are constantly transmitted, received, and shared between the balance wheels via the clutch spring, enabling them to synchronize and actively prevent oscillation-rate deviations and thereby counteract the effects of gravity.
The only role of the clutch spring developed by Armin Strom is to act as an efficient vibrational intermediary; there is no “pushing” or “pulling” of the balance wheels.
