3 Questions to Armin Strom watch expert, Nicolas Huissoud
Since my childhood, my fascination with watches has been sparked by my father. He often took me to his preferred local watch retailer, nurturing my interest in the intricacies of timepieces. Unlike many, my attraction was not to the brands, but to the inner workings of a watch. Years later, I found myself at the same watchmaking school in Grenchen that Claude Greisler attended, and I met him at an alumni event. Following my education, I focused my own business on macro photography, a specialization that ultimately led me to connect with Armin Strom.
During my diploma project at the watchmaking school, I had the opportunity to decorate my own watch and discovered the challenges of achieving flawless Geneva stripes, polished edges, or grainage. Today, owning a Tribute 1 first edition brings a unique sense of pride, as I can stroll through the manufacture and see all my colleagues who have dedicated countless hours to hand-finishing each component of my watch. Now, when I take macro shots of any Armin Strom piece, I’m confident in my colleagues’ impeccable craftsmanship and their commitment to perfect finishing. This assurance significantly simplifies the process of capturing macro shots of Armin Strom watches.
At Armin Strom, I have the unique opportunity to engage in detailed conversations with collectors about all kind of watches and their stories. Additionally, I create bespoke pieces or small limited series, which are undoubtedly highlights of my work. The ability to immerse myself in a customer’s world and create something special is an aspect of my job that I find particularly rewarding. Seeing the reaction in their eyes when they finally receive the watch is an unparalleled experience.
