We complicated the date function. Just to make it more easy-going.
Most watches force their dates upon you. Whether you want it or not, the date (hopefully) ticks over every day at midnight and you are reminded that yet another day has vanished. The Orbit makes a difference in that regard. And that’s because it politely waits to be asked before showing you the date. With the Orbit, we have created the world’s first on-demand pointer-date on a bezel. And we like to imagine that, in doing so, we didn’t just rethink a complication – we created a moment of pause in the endless flow of days.
The Orbit’s unique column-wheel date mechanism embodies mechanical intelligence at its finest. In its default state, the date hand stands sentinel at 12 o’clock, keeping the off-center dial’s view unobstructed. Press the pusher, and the mechanism springs to life – the hand precisely indicating the current date on the ceramic bezel. Once awakened, it advances automatically at midnight, maintaining perfect synchronization until commanded to return to its waiting position, while retaining the correct date in its mechanical memory.
The dates’ technical sophistication continues beneath the surface. Our patented Equal Force Barrel ensures consistent energy delivery throughout the power reserve, while a micro-rotor efficiently powers the movement without unnecessarily bulking up the case. Pardon the pun, but the Orbit truly is a watch from higher horological spheres.
Three finger bridges dominate the dial side, pointing towards the complex mechanics beneath. They frame the column wheel and micro-rotor, offering clear views into the movement’s depths. The steel case with its integrated bracelet creates a seamless flow of forms, balancing sportiness with refinement, while the black ceramic bezel adds a bold frame for the date display, marked by our distinctive “A”-shaped pointer hand.
The Orbit’s column wheel gleams with a black polish that serves as both technical necessity and aesthetic statement. Two 3-D Super Luminova monoliths at 12 and 6 o’clock provide dramatic contrast, while two-level Geneva stripes create a dynamic interplay of light across the bridges. As always with our watches: hand-finishing is what makes the watch special.
The Orbit proves that even the most familiar complications can be reimagined. We made a date function more complex, just to make checking the date a more easy-going experience. Some might call it complicated. We think it’s considered.
